Fashion Photography 101

Shoot3

Soooo, this was our tester- just to see if we really had it down ;)
This was an easy, relaxed shoot. All I really had to do was lay down.

My girl, Gcebile Matsimbe clearly knew what she was doing :D
Location: West Lake estate, Hartbeespoort South Africa

Quick tip:
All pencil skirts suit an hourglass, inverted-triangle and rectangular shaped figures, although an apple shaped can also pull this off as the jersey isn't tight fit, thus hiding the waist area.

My experience:
I can't say much about this shoot, didn't even have makeup on so it wasn't a hassle, just a lazy shoot :D
This was initially the first shoot we had, so I didnt really have much to prepare, but relax.

Shoot2

This was the fastest and easiest shoot we did, we already had something in mind, so when we went outside it took us 15minutes max and the results were so much more amazing.
This is what it's like working with someone who loves fashion and photography, after years of careful study and paying close attention to detail.

Location: West Lake, Hartbeespoort South Africa

Quick tip:
This outfit was just for the different contrasts, so every piece can be worn individually.
I would say, an hourglass, inverted-triangle, rectangular and pear-shaped figure would best suit this complete look. Although it can be manipulated to fit all body types by either wearing a loosely fit blouse, for the apple shaped figure and making the skirt's waistband fitted under the bust, not calling attention to the bigger waist area.

My experience:
This shoot was nice and easy. We knew what we wanted and we did just that and this was the result. We didn't add more ideas to it, we just went straight into it and to be honest it was really chilled and worth it.
These are proper fashion shoots ;)

Shoot 1

This was such an amazing experience, so I came to South Africa to work on a few shoots with my girl, Gcebile Matsimbe (fashion blogger and photographer).
We had so many things in mind and it was so refreshing just brainstorming, trying to get the right mood across.
I could add this to the Fashion vs Nature project as most of the shoots were done outside.
Will be sharing them with you, just for you to have a look inside the minds of fashion bloggers/photographers and just people who love fashion.

The first shoot is at a horse stable at West Lake estate.

Location: Hartbeespoort, South Africa

Quick tip
This dress is suitable for an hourglass, pear shaped, rectangular and inverted-triangular shaped figure. It's such a busy pattern, so an apple-shaped could get away with this dress too.

My experience
This was a very relaxed experience, think it's because I did it with a friend and the surroundings were pretty relaxed, except for the deer that kept following us around, so half of the photos included him, but we were able to make this work out. This was beautiful and I loved just being comfortable and this was what we were aiming for.

Fashion vs trapped inside

Day 19

I had to take pictures at this location, had a relaxed dress for the venue, so decided why not..
I chose this dress because it was a thursday morning, so didn't want to be overdressed.
So, when you're having a lazy day and still want to look good- this is more what I would call a lazy outfit :)

Location: News cafe, Windhoek

 Quick tip
This maxidress is suitable for an hourglass, inverted-triangle and a pear-shaped figure. The waist area is being emphasized, taking attention off the shoulders or hips. An apple shaped figure can wear a dress like this when it is full flared from the bust down, not emphasizing the waist at all and that's what we want ;)

My experience
I love going to News cafe and the food is amazingggg, so just had to take pictures here :)
I had soo much fun and felt very relaxed doing this shoot. The people were amazing and helpful. I really just felt at home and now with the new menu <3
News cafe has a different vibe and very relaxed atmosphere, so I could relate and just enjoy the shoot ;)

Fashion vs trapped inside

Day 18

I promised the pear-shaped figures their skirt, so this shoot was literally 7 minutes max, just for you :)
Soooo, venue was chosen due to the outfit, pretty self-explanatory once you see the outfit.
Really chilled vibe, just had to get out of the blazing sun today, so couldn't be outside, hence... I'm trapped indoors.

Location: Bolster restaurant

Quick tip
This is perfect for a pear-, hourglass and inverted-triangle shaped figure. An apple shaped will have to place the skirt by the smallest part of the torso to have the best look, then this outfit will work perfectly.
This is truly an ideal skirt for a pear shaped figure, because those hips can't even try to real themselves.

My experience
Well, I don't normally wear skirts like these often, but I had to show the ladies as I promised yesterday that I will. Need to show a bit of everything, so had a fun day with this skirt on. Also, it called attention somehow. This outfit is elegant and discreet. I could literally run and dance, not afraid anything would fall out or be revealed, so this is a happy outfit, for me at least :D
Bolster was the perfect venue for this outfit, felt like this outfit just worked here. I was dressed the part when I walked in ;)

Fashion vs Nature

Day 17

Today was just a day out in town at the touristic areas, sooo spotted the Christuskirche, which to be very honest is the major tourist attraction in Windhoek, so I had to take my next picture there.. When you google "Windhoek"- you're bound to see the church, so I included it.

Outfit is more a street style type of wear, not too over the top or too casual. I also decided to add some african print to make it stand out a bit more, just for flavour :)

Location: center of town, at the Christuskirche
Jewellery: earrings- NamiPend
                  ring: Michael

Quick tip
This outfit will suit an hourglass perfectly. This outfit cannot really be worn by other body types as it won't suit those who have either bigger hips/bust/waist as much attention will be drawn to those areas, so it's best to avoid longer pencil skirts or fitted tops. If the top is loose, then an apple- shaped figure will be able to pull this outfit off. We can make the skirt a bit flared for a pear-shaped figure. Will send pictures of that outfit soon.

My experience
Walking around my country, taking pictures as if I'm a tourist, called attention alright :D but it was nice just showing some appreciation to a landmark known by tourist who come to see our country.
Had to bring some fashion into that too :) just to add to the amazing things found in our country :)

Fashion vs Nature

Day 16

No, no, no, no! I changed locations so left my boots at home..but that didn't stop me..walked through some kind of trail to, I don't know where, with my flip-flops, of course couldn't shoot bare feet ( those thorns...haha! Not even for fashion would I risk getting attacked) sooo had to force those heels on because I couldn't resist taking pictures with that beautiful view.....man! :O
This was something else..really

Ok, so this outfit. I had to have a camouflage military dress somewhere, I'm in the bush..you can't be a soldier without something in camouflage military green. Therefore, you probably saw this coming.. hehe! :)

/Parka Jacket: Cotton on

Quick tip
Firstly, the pencil dress suits an hourglass and inverted-triangle figure perfectly, as it is tailored to the exact measurements of the body. The bust, waist and hips are measured to the body, so those areas will be emphasized. Although, with the Parka jacket or any coat that's long enough to cover the hips, makes it suitable for everyone. The pear- and apple shaped figure will look beautiful in this outfit as well. Those coats/cloaks/jackets are gifts to us ladies :)

My experience
I love my country!
Took the wrong turn and ended up here, in search for Avis dam :D but this place. I can't believe I didn't know about this place..so here I am, with or without heels :D
I'm soooo glad I found this place <3
Was a great experience, made me sooo excited...almost spent the night :D jokes!
It was really great though, no doubt.

Fashion vs trapped inside

Day 13

This shoot was very unexpected...was searching for a venue as it started raining yet again...but nonetheless it was amazing.

Soooo, as I'm on pants these days. I made something really different and to my surprise, the venue which was literally decided an hour before I had to go, matched my outfit, soo was just beautiful all together.

Location: Thule restaurant, Windhoek
Fabric and Jewellery sponsored by Agnes Antonio

Quick tip
This outfit will suit an hourglass and an inverted-triangle shaped figure. Pear- shaped figures should avoid wide pants like these, as the hips will look sooo much bigger and thus making it very evident. An apple- shaped figure can wear this outfit if the top isn't body fitted, just so that attention won't be drawn to the waist area.
I have realized that this outfit makes me look even taller <3

My experience
It was a windy and rainy night, so had to rush to get at least a few good shots before things started getting messy :) It was beautiful though. To my surprise I blended in again, which wasn't planned but nonetheless, it was beautiful being indoors and outdoors. I was indoors most of the time, these shots I managed to take outside were gifts <3
I was at Thule restaurant, it's very secluded and between houses, so hard to find, but it was worth the search ;)

Fashion vs Nature

Day 12

I'm still in Windhoek :D

Sooo, this outfit is a bit more me and the venue was in Auasblick, as there are a considerable amount of  open spaces. It's soooo green here, so decided to take advantage of the greenery.
I chose this outfit for this location because I actually loved the outfit and the location, sooo just decided why not...was looking for the best open space and came across 2 locations :)

Quick tip
The jumpsuit I am wearing is suitable for an hourglass and an inverted-triangle shaped figure. As it is a skinny, all the attention is on the leg, so a pear-shaped figure's hips will be very evident, therefore a skinny is not suitable for a pear-shaped figure, although the cloak I have on lies on the hips, therefore this outfit will also be perfect for a pear-shaped figure. An apple shaped figure can only wear this when the top part of the jumpsuit isn't tight at the top area, but is a bit loose, then it will suit an apple- figure perfectly.

My experience
This was really calming, just standing in the open and allowing the wind to blowing in my face, although the sun was pretty evident, it was beautiful.
I love my country! This is what we're exposed to everyday and we take it for granted sometimes, so I'm embracing this beautiful greenery <3
